Ian Dawson Bio.
Ian Dawson was born in 1970 and has been racing in the Gemini colours since 1985, making him one of our most experienced active members.
He started cycling at 14, rolling up to Welling cycles to start his first club ride with the Gemini in 1984.
In 1985 he had his 1st win in orange, in a criterium at Crystal Palace. He also finished second in the South Eastern Divisional Championships, going on to represent the club at the National Championships that year.
1986 to ‘88 brought a string of top ten placings in the junior ranks, before he joined the senior ranks initially as a third cat, but gaining his second category license during the 90’s.
Ian stopped racing in 2000 with a long sabbatical of ’life getting in the way’, before finding his riding legs again in 2016. And by all accounts Ian has come back stronger and more determined than ever, with top 10 placings during 2018 leading to a bronze medal in the Army National Roadrace Championships (masters level).
By he own admission he had a poor season in 2019, but now at 49 years old he is training hard again and is enthusiastic and ready for 2020.
Current category - 3rd cat.
